Installing Under Cabinet Ductless Range Hood In 8 Steps
We hope you have managed all of the tools above. Then our work starts from here on.
Step 1 – Spot the Center of the Wall
Start your DIY under cabinet ductless range hood installation by measuring the exact center point of your kitchen cabinet using the measuring tape. When you are done measuring, just mark the center with a pencil.
Step 2 – Take Measurements of Necessaries
Set your mind on where to put your ductless range hood under the cabinet. After doing so, you need to measure the space amid the cooktop and the range hood.
To see if the space is enough, measure the width and height of your range hood and then prepare the proposed area for the installation of your range hood.
As we said earlier, the gap between your range hood and cooktop must be 28 inches to 32 inches. So, make sure you are getting this air gap above your stove.
Step 3 – Mark and Drill
After getting the suitable place for installing your under cabinet ductless range hood, pick the pencil up to mark where to drill with a power drill that will fit the screw perfectly.
At this stage of installation, the paper template provided by the manufacturer can come in handy. It will let you mark holes accordingly for the cabinet screw.
You also need to make a 2-inch diameter of the hole in the center of the wood board using a saw.
Making Cabinet board holes
When you are done with your marking, make some holes with a power drill using a 4 to 8 inch bit. The drilling place and holes numbers depend on your range hood and cabinet.
If you are using fragile wooden boards or cardboard in your cabinet, it is better to add extra pieces of wood to the other side to give it bountiful strength. These screws plus brackets installed in the holes will make the range hood hang.
Install Brackets ( If Necessary)
If the manufacturer recommends you to install the hood with the wall, you need to attach the brackets along the wall using screws on the way shown above.
Step 4 – Setting Circuit Breaker for the Power Source
For a hardwired range hood, you will have to install a 110 volts circuit. If you plan to use the existing circuit, then make sure the power enriches 110 volts. If you are not blessed with mechanical skills, we suggest hiring a certified professional electrician for this part.
Step 5- Make Wire to Wire Connection
When the circuit work has been confirmed, you need to carefully turn the circuit breaker off to break the power supply and ensure it with the non-contact circuit tester. Now you are ready for wiring.
There should be 3 of the same types of wire in the circuit and your range hood. Take the stripper and remove about half an inch of coating from each wire's ends.
After that, just connect the wires of the same color and secure the connection with wire nuts. Then you also need to shield the wires of the electrical boxes.
Step 6 - Place the Under Cabinet Range Hood
After the wiring is done, you might need an extra hand for this step. While your assistant is holding the hood tightly in the middle of the cabinet, you put the screws according to the holes and install your range hood in its place.
Now tighten the mounting screws with a screwdriver to finish this step.
Step 7 – Connect with Electricity
After putting the range hood in its place and connecting the cable, now it is time to plug into the electric outlet. Then just give a check if the lights and fans are running well.
If not, see if you have messed up connecting the wires with matched color or any leakage in the wire. For this reason, we always recommend hiring a professional for these tasks.
Step 8 - Install the Charcoal Filters
This is the final step where you will need to install the charcoal filters. These are what make your range hood ductless. It clears the mess of your kitchen for you by sucking out toxic fumes, grease, and kitchen odor.
Do the following works:
